Weathernews Inc. announced that it will commence the provision of the Emission Status Monitoring Service to shipping companies worldwide. In 2018, EU MRV will come into force, mandating the monitoring, reporting and verification of the CO2 emissions from ships that call at ports in the EU region.
The new service provides total support for compliance with the EU MRV [Monitoring, Reporting and Verification] European regulations on the fuel consumption reporting system for the shipping industry. As the first phase, applications for Monitoring Plan Support offering assistance for the drafting of Monitoring Plans due for submission on August 31, 2017, will be accepted from April 12, 2017.
The Company informs that will fully utilize the service infrastructure and databases, developed in support of the shipping industry for approximately half a century, to reduce the workload of shipping companies in compliance with EU MRV.
The company notes that the Emission Status Monitoring Service is not an EU MRV certification service. It is a support service for shipping companies’ EU MRV compliance. An agreement with a separate certification body is required in the EU MRV certification process.
