Port of Açu Operações and YamnaCo Ltd have signed a land reservation agreement to develop a green ammonia project within the Port of Açu’s industrial complex in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil.
The agreement reserves two million square meters for green hydrogen projects, supplementing the one million square meters already licensed at the port. This initiative is part of Port of Açu’s energy transition strategy, leveraging its status as a major oil and gas export hub and its role in the mining and logistics sectors to create an integrated low-carbon economy platform.
This partnership highlights Açu’s strategic role as a hub for sustainable energy solutions and reflects our commitment to fostering innovative projects that contribute to the global energy transition

The proposed plant by YamnaCo Ltd will have a production capacity of up to one million tons of green ammonia per year, with the final investment decision expected by 2027 and production slated to begin by 2030. This marks Yamna’s first project in Brazil, aligning with its strategy to establish large-scale export facilities in regions with abundant renewable energy.
The process leading to the signature of the land reservation agreement has been highly collaborative and efficient, and we are confident that this strong cooperation will continue throughout the next phases of the project, paving the way toward a successful Final Investment Decision (FID).

To remind, in summer of 2024, Stolthaven Terminals, in co-operation with Global Energy Storage (GES), was selected as the only ‘potential operator’ to plan, design, build and operate a green ammonia terminal in Pecém, in the State of Ceará, Brazil.
