Goltens has hosted a keel-laying ceremony for the pioneering Polar expedition vessel Captain Arctic, which will rely primarily on renewable energy sources for its travels.
According to Goltens, the vessel will be using wind sails and advanced solar panels to provide 90% of its power. This approach will result in a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional ships. Furthermore, the 70-meter-long vessel’s sleek design is optimized for energy efficiency, minimizing its carbon footprint while ensuring environmentally responsible cruising in the fragile Arctic ecosystem.
The keel-laying event was attended by CEO Sophie Galvagnon and Technical Director Pierrick Delaunay of the ship’s French owner, Selar, while Goltens’ shipbuilder client, Chantier Naval de l’Ocean Indien (CNOI), was represented by Managing Director Frank Piriou, Deputy General Director Nicolas Perrier and Project Leader Jean Charles Davy.
Selar and CNOI have entrusted us to build a vessel that not only meets, but exceeds the expectations of the modern maritime industry. The project reflects our shared dedication to sustainability, innovation and a greener future for the seas.
… said Goltens CEO, Sandeep Seth, adding that the Captain Arctic represented the first of its kind in the luxury cruise expedition vessel.
