Nautilus has launched three new strategic campaigns focused on three main issues until 2019: Jobs, Skills and the Future, Fair Treatment (criminalisation) and Crew Communications.
‘The new strategic campaigns activity will focus on a small number of targeted campaigns, working in areas that I hope will improve the day-to-day lives of our members,’ said general secretary Mark Dickinson.
‘These campaigns will focus on securing changes in the wider industry, as well as improving individual workplaces.Alongside this, the Union will be aiming to improve our social media output and our presence in the mainstream media. I hope this will help to give our campaigns the platforms they need to attract the attention of a wider audience, which in turn, will add support to our aims and objectives’ Dickinson added.
However, Mr Dickinson also reassured members that this new strategic campaign focus will not reduce the amount of work undertaken on all areas the union currently campaigns on.
‘Nautilus has a long and proud history of actively campaigning on a number of issues including fatigue, bullying and harassment, asbestos, and fair transport, and it will continue to do so.There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved with the new campaigns.Members can assist by completing surveys, attending events and, most importantly, taking real solutions back to their employers to improve their own workplaces. We will also be working with the wider maritime community and governments to achieve our goals.” he ended.
