Last week, after a 7-year-old boy fell out of a Stena ferry and into the Baltic Sea, his mother dove in to recover him, resulting in a major rescue operation. Now, things have taken a dark turn as the case is being investigated for murder.
The Swedish Authorities have opened a murder investigation as it is possible that something more sinister led to the boy falling overboard. Despite the best rescue efforts, the two were then transferred to Karlskrona Hospital in Sweden where they were pronounced dead.
The prosecutors announced on Friday that they had opened a preliminary inquiry for murder but they emphasised that no suspect had been named. While there is nothing official yet to back this claim, many suspect it wad a case of murder suicide.
According to international news, other passengers reported that the boy was in a stroller, which they claimed was odd for his age and the mother seemed tired and depressed.
Stena has stated that the CCTV footage from the ship doesn’t match the story that the boy fell and his mother dived to save him, without making any further details public.
