Recent USCG detentions on water mist systems
The Republic of the Marshall Islands has issued the Marine Safety Advisory (MSA) No. 20-13 which concernswater mist systems.
Due to a series of recent U.S. port State control (PSC) detentions within the last twelve monthsregarding inoperative water mist systems on foreign flagged vessels including one (1) Republicof the Marshall Islands 2013 new build ship, this Advisory is being promulgated to underscore the importance of having all water mist systems fully checked and verified in satisfactory working order prior to entering U.S. waters, particularly in the ports of the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
It is highly advised that frequent rounds and inspections be made of the water mist system, paying close attention to valve alignment as well as ensuring that there is adequate labeling so that existing and new crew members will know that critical fixed firefighting equipment must be made available for immediate use.
