A maritime pilot lost his life on Sunday morning by falling into the waters of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, as he was trying to board a cargo vessel.
According to local news, the pilot went to provide pilotage services to a cargo ship preparing to pass through the Bosphorus. The incident occurred around 04:30 in the morning at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus. The pilot fell into the sea for an unknown reason, as he was trying to bard Cook Islands-flagged vessel “New Shiham”.
A sailor jumped into the sea from the pilot boat jumped into the sea to rescue the pilot and he was brought to the pier. The pilot was then transferred unconscious to the hospital, where, despite best efforts they were not able to revive him.
