Hanwha Ocean Co. has secured a contract to build two LNG carriers for Maran Gas Maritime Inc., valued at $51.2 million.
The contract will see the construction of two 174,000 cubic meter LNG carriers at Hanwha’s Geoje shipyard, with delivery set for 2027. The contract also includes an option for two additional vessels, potentially expanding future orders and deepening Hanwha’s longstanding relationship with Angelicoussis, which dates back to 1994.
The new carriers will feature Hanwha’s ME-GI natural gas engines and a full re-liquefaction system (FRS), innovations that improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions compared to conventional LNG vessels.
Additionally, Hanwha’s Air Lubrication System (ALS) and Shaft Generator Motor System (SGM) will be integrated into the ships, enhancing energy savings and aligning with modern environmental standards.
This contract contributes to Hanwha Ocean’s impressive 2023 order volume, marking the highest among South Korean shipyards. Hanwha has secured 39 vessel orders this year, including 19 LNG carriers, seven very large crude carriers, and six container ships.
