Japan Marine United (JMU) announced the delivery of the methanol-ready 12,800 TEU container ship MAERSK EUNAPOLIS on January 17, 2025.
The vessel, built at JMU’s Kure Shipyard in Hiroshima Prefecture, is the fourth ship in a series of five large container vessels of the same capacity. To support the future use of next-generation fuels, it features a Methanol Ready specification and has earned the DNV Fuel Ready Notation.
The vessel’s design was optimized for high operational frequency, ship speed, and draft, focusing on maximizing efficiency. According to JMU, it incorporates proprietary energy-saving devices, such as a specialized bulbous bow and an advanced fin system, as well as a unique twisted rudder, all of which enhance fuel efficiency.
As a result, the vessel achieves a remarkable reduction in its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) of more than 50%.
To remind, the company recently stated that by the end of 2025 it aims to have 19 dual-fuel methanol container vessels in operation
