The Korean register launched a greenhouse gas online data management system called ‘KR GEARs’ (GHG Emission Authentic Reporting System) to assist shipowners be in compliance with the GHG regulations imposed in the shipping industry.
Specifically, the system consists of data collection plan development, data transmission, and data report creation. In the meantime, KR GEARs improves a fleet’s operational efficiency management, while also assists a ship operator manage fuel oil sulphur.
The users will upload their collected data on the KR GEARs website and will be able to conduct their own EU MRV Emission Report and IMO DCS Fuel Consumption report. The process will minimise the time needed for verification.
Moreover, the uploaded data will also lead to the calculation of a vessel’s Energy Efficiency Operational Index, allowing shipping companies to easily compare, analyze, and better manage the operational efficiency of their fleet.

The website also provides a Ship Implementation Plan development function, based on which shipowners will develop it in compliance with all IMO regulations and guidance. The SIP can be created in an electronic file format as soon as the required contents and data are inputted in the system.
