Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has signed a long-term charter contract for a newbuilding LNG carrier, marking its eighth agreement with JERA Co., Inc.
As informed, the vessel will be built at Samsung Heavy Industries’ Geoje Shipyard in South Korea and is scheduled for delivery in 2026. It will have a length of 290 meters, a breadth of 45.8 meters, and a 174,000m³ membrane-type tank. MOL will manage the vessel, which is intended to transport LNG for JERA.
This is the eighth contract for LNG carrier signed with JERA. Through this long-term charter contract, MOL will contribute to the realization of a stable supply of LNG in partnership with JERA.
To remind, Drewry has predicted that LNG shipping rates will soften in 2025 as fleet growth outpaces liquefaction capacity, with 96 new LNG carriers scheduled for delivery.
