During the annual meeting of the trade body InterManager, shipowners discussed the challenges that maritime will face, as well as possible strategies to achieve environmental targets and adopt fast-paced technological advances.
InterManager President Björn Jebsen said that as far as the 2020 sulphur cap is concerned, ‘ship managers are concerned about the potential impact this stringent new regulation may have on vessel operation and crew safety.’
He also added that this regulation could present significant challenges not just in terms of the environment and economic measures but also in relation to human health.
In addition, Mr. Jebsen noted that InterManager will attempt to seek solutions and identify best practices to meet the challenges that the shipping sector faces, as well as ‘identify innovative and successful solutions.’
