Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) has signed an MoU with Bapu’s Shipping (Jamnagar) Pvt. Ltd. to introduce bio-methanol bunkering services at Kandla Port.
The agreement aims to promote sustainable maritime operations by providing cleaner alternative fuel options, aligning with India’s decarbonization goals. The MoU was signed by Shri V. Raveendra Reddy, Chief Engineer-DPA, and Shri BhupendraSinh Jadeja, Director-BSJPL, in the presence of DPA Chairman Shri Sushil Kumar Singh and other senior officials.
Speaking at the event, Singh emphasized DPA’s commitment to green energy solutions, while Jadeja highlighted the potential of Bio-Methanol in advancing India’s green shipping agenda.
Similar initiatives have been gaining momentum worldwide, with key stakeholders recognizing the potential of bio-methanol as a cleaner alternative fuel. In late 2024, Global Energy Overseas and Singapore Methanol formalized an MoU to accelerate the adoption of bio-methanol in international shipping, while Tankmatch and the Port of Rotterdam took a pioneering step by securing the first continuous permit for methanol bunkering.
