Hellenic Marine Equipment Manufacturers & Exporters (HEMEXPO) announced its participation in the EU HORIZON Sustainable Emission Abatement Strategies & Technologies For Advanced Revolution Ships (SEASTARS) project.
On 17 January, HEMEXPO made a statement announcing the participation in the project. As announced, the SEASTARS initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030 (compared to 2008 levels) and increase energy efficiency by 20%.
This will be achieved through the delivery of eight market-ready vessel designs, 4 retrofits and 4 new builds, for inland, short-sea, and high-seas shipping, by integrating advanced technologies.
On 8-9 January, the official SEASTARS launch was held in Athens, where consortium partners gathered in person to lay the foundation for the project.
