The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was called to combat a fire that broke out onboard the Philippine-registered cargo vessel, MV Moreta Venture at the vicinity waters 1.2 nautical miles southwest off Marikaban Island, Batangas, on 20 July.
Upon arrival at the incident area, PCG personnel made sure that all officers and crew onboard were safe and accounted for before combatting fire onboard.
Commodore Leovigildo Panopio of the PCG District – Southern Tagalog reported that there was no casualty as the incident was immediately contained and declared the fire was out.
The cargo vessel, which is now dead on the water and drifting, will be towed to the nearest port for safety. The PCG is now coordinating with the nearest tugboat in the vicinity waters for assistance.
