An Indonesian-flagged RORO ferry crashed into shore at high speed, while approaching Kendari port, southeast Sulawesi island, Indonesia, in late hours of November 23, the Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency informed.
At the time of the incident, ‘Jetliner’ was en route from Baubau, Buton Island, to Kendari, carrying 181 passengers and 36 crew onboard.
According to witnesses’ statements, the vessel suddenly lost control and veered off course, subsequently smashing into a port office building, sources say.
There were no injures reported and all people onboard were evacuated to Kendari Port by the personnel of Kendari Search and Rescue (SAR) Office. The building has sustained major damages, and the ferry is also reportefly damaged at his bow.
