ECSA called on the German Presidency to support a stronger European shipping industry in order to support a rapid European recovery.
Specifically, ECSA Secretary General, Martin Dorsman commented that
Significant and important developments will have to take place during the German Presidency which will be determinant in Europe’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
They applauded the guiding principles of the Presidency, set by the German Federal Cabinet:
- overcoming the consequences of the coronavirus crisis for the long-term as well as economic and social recovery,
- a stronger and more innovative Europe,
- a fair Europe,
- a sustainable Europe,
- a Europe of security and common values,
- a strong Europe in the world.
In addition, another guiding principle of the forthcoming Presidency pertains to sustainability. The industry supports that the concept of sustainability needs to cover the three main pillars: environmental, economic, and social.
Mr Dorsman added that
European shipping is making great strides in its rapid move towards decarbonisation, and we are already seeing impressive results in certain segments such as maritime passenger transport.
