The cargo ship H&S Wisdom was successfully refloated after being stranded on a sandbank in the Humber Estuary for two weeks.
The 260ft-long Dutch short-sea cargo vessel, carrying steel from Rotterdam, became stuck on March 2 near Brough while en route to Gunness Wharf Port. Despite multiple attempts to free it, the vessel remained firmly lodged in the mud as the tide receded. Officials had feared it might remain stuck until an April high tide.
Efforts to refloat the ship involved offloading thousands of tonnes of steel using cranes positioned on barges. Humber Rescue played a crucial role, ferrying surveyors and supplies to the crew, who remained aboard throughout the ordeal.
Finally, on March 15 at around 7:00 PM GMT, H&S Wisdom refloated without intervention when the tide came in.
