Danaos Corporation has disclosed that, in February 2024, the company expanded its order book by incorporating two additional 8,258 TEU newbuildings at Yangzijiang shipyard.
Anticipated to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027, respectively, these additions bring the total number of container vessels under construction to 12, boasting an aggregate capacity of 91,430 TEU.
Alternative-fuelled vessel orders are generally on the rise. According Martin Christian Wold, Principal Consultant at DNV, in January 2024, a total of 23 orders for methanol-fueled ships were recorded, predominantly concentrated in the container segment.
As we continue to execute our strategy, we remain focused on taking actions that will ultimately benefit our shareholders. Danaos is well positioned with a very strong balance sheet and significant revenue visibility into 2025.
… said Danaos’ CEO Dr. John Coustas
The CEO also noted that demand for shipyard delivery slots is very high as the industry is quickly moving to reduce carbon emissions by operating green vessels. The breakdown of expected deliveries includes six vessels in 2024, two in 2025, three in 2026, and one in 2027.
