A Singapore-flagged tanker was attacked by two armed individuals while transiting eastbound through the Phillip Channel in the Singapore Strait off Indonesia.
As reported, the suspects, armed with bladed weapons, were detected on the vessel’s stern poop deck during the incident, which occurred on the evening of 10 December. During the attack, a crew member sustained multiple stab wounds and was later hospitalized after the ship reached Singapore’s Eastern Petroleum A Anchorage. The injured seafarer’s condition remains unknown.
The attackers fled the scene without taking any items, and no damage to the vessel has been reported.
Maritime security consultancy Ambrey has reiterated that vessels with freeboards below 10 meters are at heightened risk in the Singapore Strait. Crews are advised to secure access points to the accommodation block and ship’s stores and conduct deck patrols in pairs.
