On 5 December a containership and an autonomous vessel collided on the river Scheur near Rotterdam, leading to four containers being knocked into the water.
The incident occurred the Scheur River near Koning Willem Alexander Boulevard, Maassluis. According to the reports, the autonomous vessel River Drone 5 was involved in a collision with the containership and although the vessel is capable of fully autonomous operations, it was under human operation at the time of the incident.
Furthermore, both vessels remained afloat following the collision, however four containers were knocked off into the water. The maintenance and salvage vessel Hebo Cat 7 was dispatched to collect the containers that had washed up on the bank of the river Scheur. The containers were later revealed to be empty.
