The container ship Hua Yuan 9999 collided with the dry bulk vessel Pu Hui 1 on Yangtze River near Taicang Port, on November 27. After the collision Hua Yuan 9999’s containers fell overboard, and blocked the navigation channel of the Port.
On November 27, Cotainership Hua Yuan 9999 collided with Pu Hui 1, dry bulk vessel on Yangtze River near Taicang Port.
The result of this collision was that the containership Hua Yuan capsized and all the containers that was transferring fell into the water. Specifically, 115 containers fell into the water, blocking the navigation for the rest of the vessels in Taicang Port.
Moreover, in order to bring the voyage traffic under control and restore the damage that followed the collision, the local maritime safety authority sent a team to come to the rescue. The rescue team actually saved all four crew of the ship that had fell in the water.
Also, the rescue team, sent by the local safety authority, was responsible for the emergency traffic control and blocked any vessels from entering or departing from the port until further notice.
Meanwhile, ten tugboats and six engineering vessels arrived at the scene of the incident for container salvage operations.
Finally, Taicang Port is an important hub for cargo transport between Yangtze River ports and coastal ports. It reached a cargo handling volume of 250m tons and a container volume of 4.5m teu in 2017.
