According to Reuters, China’s monthly nickel ore imports from Indonesia marked a rise to a near six-year high in November, as buyers were in a rush to acquire as much ore as they could, towards the ban of Indonesia exports which will come into effect from this month.
The nickel ore export ban was officially confirmed back in September 2019, as Indonesia aims to process more resources at home.
Specifically, the ban resulted a rush to export ore out of the country before the end on 2019.
The nickel ore shipments from Indonesia for November 2019 were 3.33m tonnes in November, marking a 7% increase comparing to the 3.11m tonnes in October.
Moreover, the above-mentioned rise is considered as the highest since January 2019, while was up to 143% from a year earlier.
On the other hand, China’s nickel ore imports noticed a fell of 12.5% in November, in comparison with those from the previous month.
Back in November 2019, Indonesia gave the green light to a specific number of nickel ore exporters to trade, after ensuring that they were in compliance with the country’s export rules to resume nickel ore shipments.
