Chevron Corp informed that it has started producing LNG at its Wheatstone project near Onslow in Western Australia. The company started operations at its plan slightly later than expected, however, the first LNG cargo will be shipped in the coming weeks, according to the company.
Nigel Hearne, Chevron Australia Managing Director, described the start-up as “a significant milestone” that represents the culmination of years of dedicated work by thousands of people from hundreds of companies within WA and across Australia.
Furthermore, Mr. Hearne highlighted the important contribution that the project offers to the local economy as it boosts the market and creates up to 7,000 jobs.
At full capacity, the Wheatstone Project’s two train LNG facility is expected to supply 8.9 million metric tons per year of LNG for export to customers in Asia.
The LNG facility is located 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) west of Onslow and processes natural gas from the Chevron-operated Wheatstone and Iago fields.
