The dry cargo vessel “Leonardo” has split at two while anchored in the Black Sea, off Turkey’s northwest coast, in eraly hours of August 27. The 11 crewmen were rescued.
The Mongolia-flagged, 1975-built, general cargo vessel started buckling and eventually broke in two, while berthing off Istanbul’s Kilyos coast, according to reuters. Turkish forces deployed eight search and rescue ships to the location.
Half of the vessel was reported to be towed to the beach, while the other half remained in the sea gradually sinking.
Local media report that the ship was en route to Istanbul’s Tuzla dockyard for repairs.
