Representatives of the Anaklia Development Consortium announced that the construction works of the Georgian Anaklia port in the Black Sea will commence on December 20, 2017.
The beginning of the construction was announced at a meeting between Anaklia Development Consortium (ADC) and Georgian business sector representatives held at the Tax Payers Union’s office on October 12.
Mamuka Khazaradze, Co-founder/Partner of ADC noted that: ”Anaklia Port is an unprecedented scale project for our country. We started the preparatory works last year and promised that we would start the construction process in just a year … And now, the more important stage of the project begins, this is the port construction.”
The preparatory phase for the construction of the new port started in 2016. During this phase Anaklia Development Consortium chose SSA Marine to be the the container terminal operator of the Anaklia Deepwater Port.
In the preparatory works, the Dutch company Van Oord participated by conducting marine engineering, including geotechnical, topography and other research for the Anaklia port.
On October of 2016, the Georgian government and ADC signed an agreement for the construction and operation of Anaklia Deep Sea Port. According to this agreement, ADC has the exclusive right to build, develop and operate the port.
