Hutchison Ports’ BEST container terminal in the Port of Barcelona has received six new electric automated cranes from Konecranes to help reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency. The cranes move on rails, as the majority of the terminal’s equipment.
The electric cranes are in favour of an efficient and environmentally sustainable terminal in the port of Barcelona.
Guillermo Belcastro, Hutchison Ports BEST CEO commented
This investment will result in a significant increase in operational and storage capacity at the terminal and will contribute to our continuous improvement of service levels both in maritime and land operations.
In addition, the new investment increases the terminal’s storage capacity from 24 to 27 blocks. For the time being, these blocks are being tested and will be ready to operate in June.
From its 2012 inauguration, the terminal has established a ship productivity rate up to 200 movements per hour.

Also, the terminal has sustained an average performance of more than 40 movements per hour and by crane, achieving one of the highest globally.
Concluding, the terminal is the first semi-automated terminal developed by Hutchison Ports Group.
