Finland’s first hybrid ferry Elektra will serve as a reference for the design of the new ferry. Commenting on the new ferry, Mats Rosin, Managing Director of Suomen Lauttaliikenne Oy, said that:
Environmentally friendly Elektra has been a success. Its innovative hybrid system has won numerous international awards. Larger than previous road ferries, Elektra has completely changed the flow of traffic on Finland’s busiest ferry route from Parainen to Nauvo
The Managing Director also added that the new ferry could be described as Elektra 2.0, as technology in this field has developed tremendously in recent years.
The contract for the ferry also includes an option for another similar hybrid board.
