RISK4SEA, a leading provider of Port State Control intelligence, is proud to announce the release of the Top PSC Performers List, for each of sixteen (16) segments of the oceangoing fleet to embrace excellence in Port State Control (PSC) performance.
This milestone is paired with the launch of RISK4SEA revamped website, offering unparalleled access to the data and research behind these rankings. The Top PSC Performers List is designed to celebrate outstanding performance across the entire PSC ecosystem, covering ships, managers, and inspections, with the aim of fostering transparency, fairness, and continuous improvement.
Revolutionizing PSC performance insights
Through meticulous mapping of the PSC landscape, RISK4SEA has developed a comprehensive benchmarking methodology to ensure fair and accurate comparisons. Vessels are evaluated within their respective categories—for example, Handymax vessels are compared with other Handymax vessels, and VLCCs with other VLCCs—to maintain consistency and reliability.
Apo Belokas, Founder & CEO at RISK4SEA, stated:
We are thrilled to introduce the Top PSC Performers List, a groundbreaking initiative designed to celebrate excellence in Port State Control performance. This list is not just a recognition of outstanding achievements; it’s a tool that empowers the maritime industry to benchmark performance and drive continuous improvement. Our goal is to help stakeholders understand their standing, identify areas for improvement, and adopt best practices.
This approach accounts for critical variables such as ship type, fleet segment, and age group, utilizing geotagged PSC inspection data and key port-specific performance indicators (KPIs).
Key features of the RISK4SEA benchmarking methodology include:
- PSC Inspection Pool segmentation: A three-tier system ensures fair comparisons by categorizing ships and managers based on PSC inspection Pools or scales.
- Non Benchmarked Managers: Understanding the PSCI per manager distribution and identifying the median, this excludes approx. 50% of the managers from the benchmarking that do not meet the median (Minimum PSCI) criteria (corresponding to 10-20% of the PSCIs per segment) so that the analysis maintains statistical balance and integrity.
- Quarterly updates: Rankings are to be updated every calendar Quarter, analyzing data from the preceding 36 months to ensure relevance and accuracy.
Promoting excellence and transparency
By democratizing access to PSC intelligence, the aim is to illuminate performance trends and promote best practices across the maritime sector.
The Top PSC Performers List celebrates high achievers within the shipping industry, from large-scale operators to smaller players whose contributions often go unnoticed. ‘’This initiative also shines a spotlight on smaller players who often go unrecognized but demonstrate exceptional performance. It underscores our commitment to making PSC intelligence accessible to all segments of the market, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence across the industry.’’, Apo Belokas added.
