Maersk Line notified that after the fire at “Maersk Honam” berthing and discharging operations will result in high extraordinary costs and decided to declare General Average.
Maersk Line has not yet confirmed when and where their vessel will be berthed and discharged, but they expect these operations to have high costs. For this reason they notified their customers and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) of their decision to declare General Average.
Richards Hogg Lindley (RHL), London has been appointed as their General Adjuster and they also notified of their intention to keep all containers, under their control until security arrangements have been made with the Average Adjusters, both for General Average and Salvage.
The vessel “Maersk Honam” was heading to Suez when it sustained a serious fire in one of its cargo holds. 23 crew members were evacuated, while one crewmember lost his life, and remains of three of the four missing crewmembers have been found on board the vessel.
