Zinus has secured a contract to supply its autonomous charging solution to the world’s first zero-emissions Ro-Pax ferry.
Led by Incat Tasmania and commissioned by Buquebús, the project aims to revolutionize maritime operations for a greener and more sustainable future, Zinus notes. The ferry, operating between Argentina and Uruguay, will provide eco-friendly transportation for up to 2,100 passengers and 225 vehicles.
Zinus’s autonomous charging solution, featuring the SWC200 Onboard Unit and ZPP800 Charging Tower Solution, will aid shore connection for efficient battery charging.
Emphasizing the project’s importance, Ronny Olson, Sales Manager at Zinus, stated, “This Ro-Pax ferry represents a substantial step towards decarbonized maritime operations. We are excited to contribute our innovative charging solution to this initiative.”
The fully electric ferry boasts a record length of 130 meters, making it the largest vessel of its kind. According to Zinus, the onboard battery modules and energy storage system are four times larger than those on any other electric or hybrid ship.
