X-Press Feeders has placed an order for four methanol-fuelled 11,000 TEU container ships from China’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. (SWS).
These new vessels will add to X-Press Feeders’ existing order of methanol-fuelled ships expected between 2024 and mid-2026. These new additions aim to support ‘green routes’ in Scandinavia-Baltic and the Mediterranean as part of the company’s decarbonization efforts.
The 11,000 TEU ships, independently designed by SWS, feature scrubbers, windshields, and multiple energy-saving technologies, enhancing speed, fuel efficiency, and reducing carbon emissions.
On May 29, 2024, the same day the contract was signed, SWS also delivered the X-Press Pyxis, the final vessel in a series of twelve 7,000 TEU container ships built for X-Press Feeders.
Additionally, X-Press Feeders recently received its first green methanol-powered containership from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group. This vessel, equipped with a dual-fuel engine capable of running on green methanol, marks the beginning of Europe’s first feeder network powered by green methanol, underscoring X-Press Feeders’ commitment to environmental sustainability.
