The world’s longest offshore wind turbine blade has touched down at the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult’s testing facilities in Blyth, Northumberland. The 107-meter LM Wind Power blade is a milestone for the wind industry.
The wind turbine blade is the first to be more than 100 meters in length. The blade will operate from GE Renewable Energy’s Haliade-X 12 MW turbine, which is also the biggest today.

The Haliade-X 12 MW is an investment aiming to reduce the cost of offshore wind installations, featuring a 220-meter rotor and digital capabilities.
The 12MW turbine can provide up to 67 GW per year, while a 750MW Haliade-X 12MW wind farm, could supply enough power for up to one million households.
GE Renewable Energy has at its plans to install the Haliade-X prototype in Rotterdam during the summer, and ship the first commercial units in 2021.
