A video circulated through social media depicts the collision of two Carnival cruise ships at Cozumel island, Mexico, on Friday. Six passengers were slightly injured and went to the Carnival Glory medical center.
The Carnival Glory was “maneuvering to dock” when it hit the Carnival Legend, which was already docked in Cozumel, according to data provided by Carnival Cruise Line.
While a formal investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash, it is believed that “spontaneous wind gusts and strong currents” caused the Carnival Glory to crash into the Carnival Legend, the Glory’s Captain said in an official letter to the ship’s passengers cited by CNN.
The Carnival Legend was inspected by required authorities and headed back to its home port in New Orleans on Sunday, the cruise line said.
As a result of the crash, the cruise line provided passengers with a $100, per room, onboard credit, the captain’s letter informed.
