The State of Florida welcomed the largest container ship ever docked on 11 December, at the Port of Miami. The “CMA CGM Magellan” is a 1,199-foot long, 167-foot wide container vessel and can transfer about 13,344 TEU.
Florida’s officials along with Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez and Chairwoman of the Tourism and Ports Committee Rebeca Sos welcomed and toured the vessel. The “CMA CGM Magellan” was coming from Georgia before landing at the Port of Miami.
For the records, the container vessel was delivered in 2010 and sails under the flag of Malta. With the vessel’s arrival, Port of Miami set a new record for its arrivals, while boosts its operations and expand its business. The officials further highlighted the need of the Miami’s Port to allow container vessels of this size to dock.
In light of the situation, a recent report about U.S. container vessels showed that its imports are high ahead of December’s new tariffs, as it was noticed an increase at volumes in November 2019.
