The video, published by the American oil major ExxonMobil, depicts life onboard the Hebron oil platform, located off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. Hebron is one of the world’s largest offshore platforms, located 1789 miles from Ireland and 211 miles to Newfoundland.
The Hebron oil field is located offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada in the Jeanne d’Arc Basin 350 kilometres southeast of St. John’s. The field was first discovered in 1980, and is estimated to produce more than 700 million barrels of recoverable resources. Hebron crude oil is produced by a joint venture among ExxonMobil (35.5%), Chevron (29.6%), Suncor (21%), Statoil (9%) and Nalcor Energy (4.9%).
Hebron employees stay on the platform for 21 days. Hebron has beds for 220 people. The facility includes two control rooms, a game room, and a music room, among others.
According to industry data, a career in oil and gas does not seem attractive for the new generations, as it is associated with intense shifts and hard working conditions. A recent survey by Accenture indicated that only 2% of US college graduates consider oil and gas their top job choice.
