Fire took place on board a cargo ship on April 15, off the coast of Italy. Twelve crew members were on board at the time and were all rescued.
Reggio Calabria port authority received a mayday call about an uncontrollable fire in the engine room aboard the freighter Bellatrix, around 180 miles southeast from Catania.
The Italian Coast Guard organized a search and rescue mission, using air and surface assets. Moreover, the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Center requested that all ships in the vicinity divert to assist.
What is more, the 12 crew members were on board Bellatrix, and were saved by the Panama-flagged cargo ship Arife, which was nearby.
In addition, no pollution has been reported
A tug will now recover the vessel for transport to Aliaga, Turkey.
