Warsash Maritime Academy is at the forefront of engine room resource management training. We are proud to have both pioneered the use of simulators at the Academy and proud to be world leaders in providing higher level simulation training for bridge, engine, manned model ship handling and liquid cargo operations for several decades now.
WMA produced the world’s first merchant navy engine room simulator some 30 years ago. Ever since then, we have demonstrated our commitment in developing, introducing and deliveringnew courses that meet the ever-changing demands and training requirements of the international shipping industry.
After 12 months of careful planning, WMA’s engine room simulator facility underwent a complete renewal. This involved a new layout, room designs, structural changes and installation of a brand new full mission engine room simulator which has been bespoke designed in-house to meet to the training requirements of the IMO STCW Code and the maritime industry.
The project was completed in September 2012, and on Thursday 4 October sees the official opening by Mr Milhar Fuazudeen, Head of Maritime Training and Human Element Maritime Safety Section within the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
Director of Warsash Maritime Academy, Andrew Hair commented: “The set up and design of our new Full Mission Engine Room simulator is the first of its kind in the world, and it is backed by extensive experience of practical simulator training and academic application. And it reflects a focus that lies at the heart of many of our successful training programmes – namely creating an atmosphere within the simulator that mirrors the exact conditions in a real engine room environment aboard ship.
My heartfelt thanks go to all those people from Warsash Maritime Academy, Southampton Solent University and our project partners, whose hard work and expertise have brought this project to such a successful conclusion”
