Republic of the Marshall Islands, Marine Safety Advisory
The Republic of the Marshall Islands has issued a Marine Safety advisory regarding fraudulent emails coming from the Suez Canal Authority.
There has been notable increase of fraudulent emails sent to many vessels through a fake company(s) claiming to hold the identity of the SUEZ CANAL AUTHORITY (SCA).
This unknown party seeks to acquire privileged and sometimes even confidential information from the vessel’s Master (such as ETA, pre-arrival info, Manager/Owner/Agent details etc.), and as a result, information has been unintentionally disclosed to those other than the intended recipient(s).
For the majority of cases, the SCA does not contact any vessel directly, but rather communicates through the agents of the vessel who act on behalf of the vessel’s owner/charterer to provide such details.
Vessels should not respond to any email address containing the domain name “@suezcanalauthority.com” as they are not affiliated with the SCA. The correct email address of the SCA only contains the domain name “@suezcanal.gov.eg.”
