Seven people were killed and 17 injured after a ship capsized when the crew was loading trucks into the vessel at Port-au-Prince in Haiti.
On 23 December, the freighter Maelys II tilted to port and capsized at the Varreux Terminal in Port-au-Prince. At the time of the incident, the ship was carrying 34 trucks, and authorities continued searching the internal compartments throughout the week for any missing personnel. As reported, seven people were killed and seventeen were injured.
The vessel, which transported goods between Gran Sud and Port-au-Prince, began to list after a truck’s “poor maneuver” in the hold caused a significant imbalance, according to a statement from the Terminal.
