The US Coast Guard informed that it medevaced the Captain of a cargo ship on December 14, offshore Galveston, Texas.
According to information, the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a medevac request at 5 p.m. from the agent of the 555-foot roll-on/roll-off cargo ship San Martin.
The request stated the captain was experiencing symptoms of hypertension and leg swelling in the Galveston Fairway Anchorage. Upon receiving the alert, watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac.
After that, a US Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew diverted to medevac the Captain of the vessel.
The helicopter crew arrived on scene, successfully hoisting the captain. It then transported him to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, in which he was stable condition.
