With effect from 1 July
With effect from 1 July, new regulations for insurance requirements of ships for maritime claims will come into effect. Under this new regulation, All vessels of 300 GT (either Turkish-flagged or/and all those flying other flags) bound for/leaving ports, terminals, anchorages and other port facilities in Turkish territorial waters must have valid P&I insurance cover and present the insurance policy if requested by officials.
The Turkish Prime Ministry – Undersecretariat for Maritime Affairs – Directorate General of Merchant Marine has confirmed to the International Group of P&I Clubs the requirement for all merchant ships bound for or leaving ports, terminals, anchorages and other ports facilities in Turkish territorial waters to have valid P&I insurance cover.
The “Regulation on the Requirement to obtain Insurance Coverage for vessels against Maritime Claims and Supervision thereof” will take effect on 1 July 2011.
