Thomas Nordberg, Managing Director of The Swedish Club, stressed the importance of improved industry cooperation to address the challenges faced by the maritime industry in today’s uncertain operating environments.
As he explained, a joint approach to high priority industry challenges, commonly driven by factors outside the scope of our control, is the only way to cut through the uncertainty that marine insurers face in today’s global society. He also emphasised the need for the Nordic marine insurance industry to escalate collaboration wherever possible and take a joint approach to accelerate innovation and progress in strategically important areas.

At present market complexity can be such that it is difficult to even phrase the question, let alone seek the answer, as the world is changing so fast.

Furthermore, he outlined several key areas where cooperation would be most effective, including geopolitics and digital transformation. Nordberg suggested a coordinated approach to collecting and understanding geopolitical intelligence to benefit the industry collectively.
Thomas Nordberg also emphasized the opportunities presented by digital transformation to share resources and enhance understanding of risk. Additionally, he highlighted the need to address IT security threats and ethical concerns associated with the use of AI in the industry, advocating for agreed standards and ethical guidelines to ensure transparent, fair, and sustainable AI use.
