The Liberian Registry has established an Innovation & Energy Transition Team dedicated to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The team’s objective is to facilitate the incorporation of both new and existing solutions to support the Liberian Registry’s energy transition initiatives. The approach involves close collaboration with shipyards, design firms, classification societies, engine manufacturers, shipowners/managers, and other key stakeholders.
The initiative has already yielded innovative ship designs, new technologies, and alternative fuels through joint industry projects (JIPs) and joint development projects (JDPs).
This initiative reflects our dedication to service excellence and developing innovative techniques by collaborating with our partners to reach net-zero goals. We hold a firm belief that responsible and sustainable shipping practices are the future, and we’re proud to offer this support to our clients

The Innovation & Energy Transition Team aims to address challenges in the international shipping sector as it works towards achieving net-zero GHG emissions, aligning with the 2023 International Maritime Organization (IMO) GHG Emissions Reduction Strategy and targeting net-zero GHG emissions by 2050.
The establishment of this new department is seen as a valuable asset in supporting Liberian flag shipowners and collaboration partners in their joint efforts toward net-zero GHG emissions in international shipping. The initiative reflects the registry’s commitment to service excellence and sustainable shipping practices.
The Registry is comprised of over 5,800 vessels aggregating 257 million gross tons, representing more than 16 percent of the world’s ocean-going fleet.
