According to the French Agency Premar Mediterranee, on Monday 13 April, a crewmember onboard the chemical tanker “Elandra Baltic” fell over the sea while working on the accommodation ladder. In fact, the 55-year old Latvian has fallen during the night, from at least 6 meters high.
In light of the situation, Elandra Baltic immediately called the rescue coordination center CrossMed in order to provide its assistance.
CrossMed from its side, activated Dragon 131 helicopter of the Marignane civil security along with two pilots boats from the Grand Port Maritime de Marseille (GPMM), the SNSM speedboat from Carro, as well as a semi-rigid of the Marseille firefighters.
All of them searched the area for the entirety of the morning, while at noon the Maritime Prefect of the Mediterranean decided to stop the research.
Following the missing crewmember’s research, the maritime police of Port de Bouc is currently investigating the casualty.
Concluding, the 2011-built Elandra Baltic tanker operates under the Marshall Islands flag and is owned by a Latvian shipping company.
