The Marshall Islands-flagged product tanker ‘Chem Norma’ was refloated in the afternoon hours of 3 June, following its grounding in the St. Lawrence River near Morrisburg, Ontario, on 29 May.
Following the successful refloating operation, the ship underwent an inspection process, to ensure that it is ready to resume its transit.
According to initial information, the ship ran aground because of a steering issue, while sailing westbound in the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Neither water ingress, nor pollution were reported as a result from the incident, with officials saying that the release of any product was not likely. In addition, the incident did not affect the ship traffic in the St. Lawrence Seaway.
