Video shows firefighting boats working to extinguish a fire aboard a tanker ship in the Gulf of Mexico. The fire broke out on Saturday, September 24, about seven nautical miles off the coast of the port city of Boca del Rio.
The tanker Burgos was carrying about 168,000 barrels of gasoline and diesel fuel and was scheduled to dock on Sunday morning. Mexico’s Navy rescued 31 crew members and no injuries were reported. Furthermore, there were no immediate reports of fuel spills and the cause of the fire was unknown. Veracruz Port Authority said that its double hull prevented the majority of the product from spilling.
Mexican national oil company Pemex announced on Sunday evening that the fire on the product tanker Burgos has been extinguished.
