A collision occurred on the evening of 13 December at Merak Port, Banten, Indonesia, between the passenger ship Trimas Fadhila and the tanker Gas Sofia.
According to the Indonesian Authorities, the incident took place in the Tanjung Sekong anchorage area when Trimas Fadhila, which was waiting with its engine off, was carried by the current and struck MT Gas Sofia at around 19:35. The collision caused significant damage to both ships.
Trimas Fadhila sustained a 25 cm hole on its right foredeck and a broken railing, while MT Gas Sofia suffered a dent in its bulbous bow. Fortunately, there were no injuries, cargo damage, or environmental impact.
All passengers on Trimas Fadhila were safely disembarked, and the ship has since unloaded its cargo for repairs. After completing the repairs, the ship will undergo an inspection before returning to service.
