DNV GL presented Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, with an approval certificate, for a new double side hull LPG carrier design – LPG SAFE, which is the first LPG carrier design to provide the safety benefit of a double side hull, while offering the same cargo carrying capacity and the same construction cost as a conventional design.

SCF Group has signed an agreement with Shell for the supply of liquefied natural gas, to fuel the first Aframax crude oil tankers in the world to be powered by LNG. The signing of this agreement marks the fulfillment of an MOU signed between Shell and SCF in September 2015 to develop Marine LNG fuelling for large-capacity tankers.

The retrofit modification meets the current known and future stated global emissions regulations.Nakilat’s Rasheeda built in 2010 is a 266,000 m3 LNG carrier with two MAN B&W S70ME-C HFO-burning engines, which have been converted to the dual-fuel ME-GI concept. The shipyard operator Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM) carried out the ship’s conversion at its Erhama bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard facilities in the major Qatari port of Ras Laffan Industrial City.The project collaborators, including MAN PrimeServ, installed the ME-GI system on the vessel at the Erhama bin Jaber Al Jalahma shipyard in Qatar in June 2015.  NASSCO delivered the world's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered containership, the Isla Bella, to TOTE Maritime. The ship was delivered nearly two months ahead of schedule. NASSCO is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics.As part of a two-ship contract signed in December 2012 with TOTE, the 764-foot long Marlin Class containerships will be the largest dry cargo ships powered by LNG, making them the cleanest cargo-carrying ships anywhere in the world. This groundbreaking green ship technology will dramatically decrease emissions and increase fuel efficiency when compared to conventionally-powered ships, the equivalent of removing 15,700 automobiles from the road."Successfully building and delivering the world's first LNG-powered containership here in the United States for coastwise service demonstrates that commercial shipbuilders, and owners and operators, are leading the world in the introduction of cutting-edge, green technology in support of the Jones Act," said Kevin Graney, vice president and general manager of General Dynamics NASSCO.The delivery of this historic ship, also demonstrates successful collaboration between industry and regulatory bodies.
