Wärtsilä receives order for a dynamically positioned offshore rig solution

Wärtsilä has signed a repeat integrated solution order with the Cosco Offshore Co.Ltd shipyard covering another DP3 Dynamically Positioned offshore accommodation rig being built for Singapore based Axis Offshore. The Wärtsilä solution includes the main power generation system, the propulsion system, the electric and automation system, and the automation safety system. The vessel, which is expected to enter service in January 2016, will be equipped with a DP3 dynamic positioning system and will be available for worldwide operations. The dynamic positioning is a system that automatically maintains a vessel's position and heading by using its own propellers and thrusters. The order was signed in December 2013. Wärtsilä will begin deliveries of its equipment during the first half of 2014.This follows a similar order placed earlier last year by the same company for an identical comprehensive, fully integrated Wärtsilä power, propulsion and positioning system. "This second order to supply the same yard and owners during the same year with an identical integrated Wärtsilä solution undoubtedly proves the success of our offering. Being able to have the complete power, propulsion, and positioning system delivered from a single supplier means that all elements can be integrated into a synchronised, efficient and optimised total solution. Wärtsilä Topside Power Modules chosen for UK FPSO

Wärtsilä will supply a 62 MW topside power module solution for a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel to be deployed at the Kraken oilfield located in the U.K. sector of the North Sea. This engineering, procurement and construction award has been given in December 2013 by Armada Kraken, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Malaysia based international offshore oilfield services provider, Bumi Armada. The project will comprise the EPC delivery of two identical power generation modules, each housing two 16-cylinder Wärtsilä 50DF multi-fuel engines with generators, waste heat recovery units and all related fuel, oil and air and other utility systems. The modules are designed by Wärtsilä Ship Design. The engines are capable of being operated on a variety of fuel types, including treated well gas, heavy crude oil, and marine diesel oil (MDO). The ability to utilise produced gas and crude means that little or no MDO will need to be shipped to the FPSO. This will notably reduce operating costs. Furthermore, the efficient gas-fired power solution will have significantly lower levels of CO2 emissions compared to conventional technologies. Bumi Armada will be using a recently built Suezmax tanker for the FPSO conversion, which will have a ...

Wärtsilä X72 engine passes factory acceptance test

Wärtsilä, the marine industry's leading provider of innovative products, solutions and services, is pleased to announce that the first ever Wärtsilä X72 mid-bore, low-speed engine has successfully passed the factory acceptance test. The engine fulfils the design criteria for performance and functioning, and it has been accepted by the customer and the Lloyd's Register of Shipping classification society. The tests were carried out at the Doosan Engine Co. Ltd factory in South Korea, where the engines are being produced under license from Wärtsilä. Wärtsilä launched its low-speed Generation X engine series in May 2011. The Wärtsilä X72 engine offers efficiency and fuel consumption performance to provide a favourable Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). Furthermore, the improvement in fuel consumption, when compared to conventional marine engine options, results in correspondingly reduced CO2 and NOx emissions. Thanks to its extended rating field, the Wärtsilä X72 is highly suited to a broad range of ship types, including Capesize bulk carriers, Suezmax tankers, and Feeder/Panamax container ships. "This is another important milestone for us since this is the first ever Wärtsilä X72 engine to roll off the production line. The fact that it has successfully fulfilled the factory acceptance test requirements means that in ...
